Swiss First Division club, FC Aarau have extended the contract of Ghana international Daniel Afriyie Barnieh following his blistering performance this season.
The former Hearts of Oak forward will stay with FC Aarau until June 30, 2028, after an option clause in his initial deal was triggered early.
The 24-year-old joined Aarau from top flight side FC Zurich in the summer on a two-year deal and made an immediate impact where he scored on his first appearance.
The club announced: “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Daniel Afriyie and thank him for his loyalty,” the club announced.
Aarau who currently sit second in the Swiss Challenge have benefitted immensely from Afriyie Barnieh’s contributions as they continue the fight top flight promotion.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh won the Africa U-20 champion and the WAFU U-20 ZONE B tournament with Ghana alongside Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
He led Hearts of Oak to the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League title and two FA Cup two subsequent seasons under coach Samuel Boadu. He played a key role in Hearts of Oak’s Super Cup and President Cup.
He was one of the five home-based players to make the squad for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar where the four time African champions exited at the group stage.
