Igoh Ogbu confirms desire to help Slavia Prague secure title

Nigeria international Igoh Ogbu has confirmed his desire to help Slavia Prague secure the 2025-26 Czech league title.

Ogbu, who recently returned to the side following an injury, shared his ambitions in an interview with Footy Africa.

Ogbu’s determination

Ogbu, who missed Slavia’s last four league matches, noted he is delighted to be back in the squad and is determined to play his part in the club’s title charge.

“Sometimes when it comes to injuries, it is something you cannot stop. You can only focus on prevention, but for me, I am happy to be back.

Injury is not a place any player wants to be. For me, it is a thing of joy to rejoin the team, to be playing football again with the boys and to feel the moment of football again.”

Excitement over his return

“It makes me happy to come back to the team. They have been doing very well while I was away and I am proud of them. Joining them again is good, and now I have to work hard to help the team win things together.

Coming back, I want to do my best, help the team in every way I can, continue to grow, and deliver for our fans so that at the end of the day we lift the trophy. That is what I stand for.”

Slavia Prague currently sits top of the league standings with 58 points, closely followed by Sparta Prague, who have 51 points from 24 matches.

Ogbu has made 10 appearances this season. His limited involvement was due to both his injury spell and international duty, having represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in December and January.

The return of Igoh Ogbu from injury comes at an important time for Slavia Prague as the team pushes to secure the Czech league title. With only a few matches remaining in the season, every player’s contribution becomes crucial in maintaining the club’s position at the top of the standings.

Ogbu has developed into a reliable defensive presence since joining Slavia Prague. Known for his strong tackling, aerial ability and composure on the ball, the Nigerian defender has earned the trust of the coaching staff and supporters alike. His ability to organize the backline and read the game effectively has made him an important figure in the squad.

The title race in the Czech league remains highly competitive, with Sparta Prague continuing to chase the league leaders. This rivalry adds extra pressure on Slavia Prague to remain consistent in their performances in the remaining fixtures.

For Ogbu, the opportunity to help Slavia Prague win the league title would represent a significant milestone in his career. Winning a domestic championship in Europe would not only strengthen his reputation as a defender but also increase his chances of attracting attention from other top clubs across the continent.

Meanwhile, his performances at club level could also play a key role in maintaining his place in the Nigerian national team. Strong displays for Slavia Prague would likely keep him in contention for future international competitions with the Super Eagles.

As the season approaches its final stages, supporters of Slavia Prague will be hoping that Igoh Ogbu and his teammates can maintain their focus and consistency. If the team continues to perform at a high level, they could soon celebrate another league title and add another chapter to the club’s successful history.

The final weeks of the season will therefore be crucial for Slavia Prague as they aim to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Every match could play a decisive role in determining the destination of the title. With players like Igoh Ogbu returning to full fitness and strengthening the squad, the team will be confident of finishing the campaign strongly and securing the Czech league trophy.
