African players are among the standout contenders for the February Player of the Month award in the Premier League, following impressive performances with their clubs during the past month.
Leading the African representation is Antoine Semenyo, the Ghana international forward of Manchester City. Semenyo featured in five league matches during February, scoring three goals and playing a key role in City’s strong results.
His teammate at the English champions, Nico O’Reilly, also earned a nomination after an excellent month. The English midfielder played five matches, helping Manchester City record four wins and one draw, while scoring three goals.
Another African name on the shortlist is Dango Ouattara, the Burkina Faso international forward of Brentford, who shined with his performances, scoring two goals and providing two assists to secure a place among the league’s top players for February.
The list also features several European stars, including Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres of Arsenal. Gyökeres enjoyed a productive month, scoring four goals in four Premier League appearances as Arsenal remained unbeaten with two wins and two draws.
Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko of Manchester United also delivered strong numbers, scoring three goals in four matches while helping his side record three victories and one draw.
Meanwhile, Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, captain of Liverpool, completed the shortlist after another commanding month at the heart of Liverpool’s defense.
