South African coach Selaotse Mosala has reacted to the outcome of his first game in charge of struggling Eswatini MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Highlanders AM FC on Saturday.
The South African filled the void created by Ernest Mavuso’s resignation on Monday following a string of defeats for the club that is affectionately called Ezimnyama Ngenkani.
Returning to the Eswatini Premier League club he managed in 2022, Mosala started his reign with an away fixture against Green Mamba FC at Mhlume Stadium.
The game ended goalless, and the manner which Highlanders AM players applied themselves defensively pleased the former Sekhukhune United deputy coach.
“We started the game very well and followed the game plan,” the coach told the club’s media. “We managed to create four good scoring chances in the first half. There was good rotation of the ball, good switching of play, and defensively, we were well organised.”
“In the second half, our play was breaking down, especially in the final third, and the game became more 50/50 with the opponents.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Highlanders AM announced that Mosala had joined on a season-long contract, stepping in the shoes of Mavuso who resigned on Monday.
South African football administrator Shawn Mkhize, formerly in charge of South Africa’s Royal AM, owns Highlanders AM.
Mkhize became the majority shareholder of the Eswatini side last July after South Africa’s elite league governing body expelled her Royal AM from the flagship Betway Premiership over financial problems which saw curators handling the then Durban-based club’s affairs.
To her credit, she did not give up on football but crossed the South African borders to invest in Ezimnyama Ngenkani.
Highlanders AM sit in position 10 in the log table with 10 points from nine games, eight points behind leaders and holders Nsingizini Hotspurs.
The Black Bull are the 13-time Eswatini Premier League champions.
