Finnish top flight club Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) have announced the signing of experienced Ghana defender Kasim Nuhu Adams.
The 30-year-old completed a move to the Veikkausliiga side after signing a two-year contract with the club as a free agent.
Adams brings a rich European experience to the eight time Finnish champions having previously played in the Swiss Super League, the German Bundesliga and the Spanish league.
He won the Swiss Super League with Young Boys in the 2017-18 season plus featuring in 50 games for FC Basel, scoring a total of three goals.
Adams, who started his senior career at Ghana’s Medeama, moved to Spain with Leganes and Real Mallorca before transferring to Young Boys on a permanent deal after an initial loan move.
His performance caught the eyes of Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim who signed him in 2018. He was however limited to a few game time forcing two loan spells to Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Basel.
He last played for Swiss outfit Servette before joining KuPs as a free agent this year.
Speaking after completing the move, the Ghanaian defender expressed delight at joining the Finnish club and praised the reception he received from the team.
“The reception was really good. The team welcomed me nicely, and the coaching staff made sure that everything was in order right from the start,” Adams said.
“The first few practices were really good for me, and I enjoyed them a lot. The development looks good, and I’m looking forward to working with the team.
“Of course, I had heard about Finland, and I also knew about Kuopio Palloseura. The club regularly participates in European competitions, so I was naturally aware of it.”
KuPS sporting director Sixten Bostrom believes the signing will strengthen the club’s defensive options.
“Kasim is a very suitable stopper for us in terms of ball possession. He can open the game with quality, both with short and longer passes.
“In addition, he brings physicality and strong aerial ability to our defence in both penalty areas. As an experienced player, he will also provide leadership and confidence to our backline.”
The 11 time capped Ghana centre-back will be hoping to hit the ground running as KuPS prepare for the upcoming Veikkausliiga campaign.
Finnish top-flight club Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) have officially announced the signing of experienced Ghanaian defender Kasim Nuhu Adams, strengthening their defensive options ahead of the upcoming Veikkausliiga season.
The 30-year-old centre-back joins the Finnish side on a two-year contract after completing the move as a free agent. The arrival of Kasim Nuhu is expected to add leadership, experience and defensive stability to the KuPs squad as the club prepares for another competitive campaign in Finland and potential European competitions.
Kasim Nuhu arrives in Kuopio with extensive experience from several major European leagues. Over the years, the Ghana international has played in the Swiss Super League, German Bundesliga and Spanish football, building a reputation as a strong and reliable defender.
One of the highlights of his career came during his time with Swiss giants Young Boys, where he helped the club win the 2017-18 Swiss Super League title. During his stint in Switzerland, Kasim Nuhu also featured prominently for FC Basel, making around 50 appearances and scoring three goals across competitions.
Kasim Nuhu began his professional career in Ghana with Medeama SC, where his impressive performances quickly attracted interest from clubs in Europe.
He first moved to Spain, where he played for CD Leganes and later Real Mallorca, gaining valuable experience in Spanish football before eventually making the switch to Switzerland.
His move to Young Boys initially came on loan before the club secured his services on a permanent deal. It was during his time with the Swiss champions that Kasim Nuhu’s performances caught the attention of clubs across Europe.
In 2018, German Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim signed the Ghanaian defender following his impressive displays in Switzerland. However, his time in Germany proved challenging as limited playing opportunities restricted his impact at the club.
In search of regular game time, Kasim Nuhu later had loan spells with Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany and FC Basel in Switzerland, where he continued to showcase his defensive qualities and experience.
Before joining KuPs, the Ghanaian centre-back last featured for Swiss club Servette FC, where he continued to add to his experience in European football.
On the international stage, Kasim Nuhu has represented the Ghana national team on several occasions, earning 11 caps for the Black Stars.
His international experience adds another layer of leadership and composure to the KuPs defence. With years of top-level football behind him, the defender will be expected to guide younger players and strengthen the team’s backline.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Kasim Nuhu expressed his excitement about joining KuPs and praised the warm welcome he received from the players and coaching staff.
“The reception was really good. The team welcomed me nicely, and the coaching staff made sure that everything was in order right from the start,” Adams said.
“The first few practices were really good for me, and I enjoyed them a lot. The development looks good, and I’m looking forward to working with the team.”
The Ghanaian defender also revealed that he was already familiar with the club before making the move.
“Of course, I had heard about Finland, and I also knew about Kuopio Palloseura. The club regularly participates in European competitions, so I was naturally aware of it.”
KuPs sporting director Sixten Bostrom believes Kasim Nuhu will be a valuable addition to the squad and highlighted the defender’s qualities on and off the pitch.
“Kasim is a very suitable stopper for us in terms of ball possession. He can open the game with quality, both with short and longer passes,” Bostrom explained.
“In addition, he brings physicality and strong aerial ability to our defence in both penalty areas. As an experienced player, he will also provide leadership and confidence to our backline.”
With the new season approaching, Kasim Nuhu will be hoping to quickly settle into the squad and play an important role as KuPs prepare for the upcoming Veikkausliiga campaign.
The signing of the Ghanaian defender signals KuPs’ ambition to strengthen their squad as they aim to compete strongly in domestic competitions and maintain their presence on the European stage.
