UAE Pro League: Banza double lifts Al Jazira over Al Dhafra

Simon Banza made it four goals in his last four matches on Tuesday as Al Jazira Club secured a tight 2-1 victory at Al Dhafra in the UAE Pro League.

The Congolese international endured a difficult opening half of his debut campaign in the Emirati top flight but is showing signs of life. He now has six goals in fifteen matches from all competitions this season and looks more than capable of improving his strike rate in the coming months.

Banza opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a simple finish after an initial header was saved by  Dhafra goalkeeper Amjad Al Sayed, who was left helpless after pushing the ball right to the forward.

It appeared to be a lost cause for the hosts after Rostand Djooh was issued a red card before the half hour mark. However, former AS FAR and JS Soualem forward Mohamed El Khaloui offered a response early in the second half and the match was level.

But it took only six minutes before Banza scored a trademark poacher’s goal to secure victory for the visitors. Brazilian attacker Bruno created enough space to get to the end line and float a cross up for the former Braga striker to head in the match winner.

Al Jazira have fourth place secured on the league table, ten points behind leaders Al Ain.
