Zambia: Power Dynamos FC coach feels vindicated on Shumah

Zambia’s Power Dynamos FC coach Osward Mutapa has opened up on why he feels vindicated by his decision to sign striker Moses Shumah this 2026-2027 season.

The coach commented on the impact of the FKF Premier League import on the MTN Super League champions after he delivered the goods for them during Sunday’s match against ZESCO United.

Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia rose on its collective feet to salute Shumah after he struck a hat-trick for Dynamos to edge ZESCO United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

Commenting on the form of Shumah, Mutapa suggested that some quarters within the MTN Super League champions’ camp earlier had doubts about the abilities of the forward.

“When I spoke about Shumah that he has the ability to do what we feel he can do, people were like: ‘May be there is something’ between me and Shuma,” the coach told his club’s media.

“But there he is, harassing each and every ball, fighting each and every ball and making defenders uncomfortable. Now, the team is happy and everyone is happy.”

How many league goals has Shumah scored?

The 23-year-old took his tally to 12 goals as the MTN Super League leading scorer after finding the back of the net in the 18th, 65th and 74th minutes.

Shumah gave the league holders the lead before ZESCO United responded through Amine Hiver in the 33rd minute and five minutes later, the Chadian made it his brace of the afternoon to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Matters were left in the hands of the Harambee Stars man to have a final say. He scored two more goals to complete his treble for Zambia’s 2025-2026 CAF Champions League representatives.

The Kenyan left the pitch to a standing ovation after Brian Masanyinga replaced him with four minutes remaining on the clock.

The 14th league victory in 22 matches of the season put Mutapa’s charges five points clear of second-placed Red Arrows, who had been leading the race for the better part of the campaign.
