UEFA CL: Mamadou Sarr – Chelsea have experience to face PSG

Senegal defender Mamadou Sarr says Chelsea possess the qualities to give a good account of themselves in Europe this season.

The 20-year-old African champion cut short his loan spell in January at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg to reunite with coach Liam Rosenior at Chelsea.

Having been roped into the Blues Champions League squad, the former Olympique Lyon centre-back has proved to be a quality addition to the set-up.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League knockout phase match at the Parc des Princes against European champions Paris St-Germain, Sarr believes Chelsea have what it takes to display some quality performances.

“I think we are young, but we have a lot of experience. Guys like Reece [James], they won the trophy, they won the Champions League, so I think we can achieve that again,” Sarr told BBC Sport.

“I don’t think it’s about age; I think it’s about mentality and level.”

Sarr has made three starts under manager Liam Rosenior since his recall from his loan stint.

It will be recalled that Sarr played a part in Chelsea’s run up to winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, a game the English side won 3-0 over French giants PSG in New Jersey.

Mamadou Sarr played three matches as Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 to lift their second Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in January.

Sarr who represented France at various youth levels up to the U-20, chose to feature for the Teranga Lions at the senior level and he has gone on to make four appearances so far.
