Young Africans defender Dickson Job has undergone a knee surgery in South Africa following an injury sustained during their 0-0 Mainland Premier League Kariakoo derby draw against rivals Simba SC.

The two Tanzanian giants faced off for the first time this season at New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. Confirming Job’s situation, Ally Kamwe, the club’s Media and Communications Manager, said the surgery was successful and that Job is recovering well.

In a statement, Yanga confirmed: “The procedure was successful and the player has now begun his recovery process. Wishing him a quick and full return to the pitch.”

According to the Tanzania Premier League champions, the defender is expected to be out of action for approximately two to three months while continuing treatment before returning fully to competitive play.

Young Africans to face Tanzania Prisons

Young Africans are preparing to take on Tanzania Prisons in a Premier League fixture at Dodoma on Thursday. The Citizens will be seeking to make it two wins out of two since Simba draw.

Yanga secured a convincing 3-1 win against Singida Black Stars after the Simba stalemate. After the Singida win, Young Africans shifted focus to their domestic Cup title defence kicking off with a 7-1 win against Polisi Tanzania FC 7-1 in the Federation Cup Round of 32 clash played at KMC Complex Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Goncalves commended his players for their commitment and quality as they continue their campaign to defend the domestic knockout title.

“My players deserve compliments for the performance they showed in this match. We have to continue demonstrating our strength because we are the defending champions,” said Goncalves as quoted by the Guardian.

The victory saw Yanga advance to the Round of 16 where they will face Tanzania Meteorological Agency FC, a match that promises to test Young Africans’ consistency as the competition intensifies.
