Pirates receive midfield boost ahead of Siwelele showdown

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has received a significant personnel lift ahead of the Siwelele clash, with the club’s medical department confirming that Kabelo Dlamini and Sihle Nduli are nearing a return to competitive action.

The timing could not be more critical for the Buccaneers. Currently perched at the summit of the Betway Premiership, Pirates are locked in a dead heat with Mamelodi Sundowns. Both sides sit on 47 points after 20 matches, with the Soweto giants holding the advantage only by a razor-thin goal difference.

Ending the 14-Year Wait At Pirates

While Pirates have flourished as South Africa’s “Cup Kings”—hoarding seven trophies over the last four seasons—the league title remains the ultimate “holy grail.” The club last hoisted the Premiership trophy in the 2011/12 season.

Having finished as bridesmaids to Sundowns for three consecutive years, the pressure is on Ouaddou to convert their knockout dominance into league glory. After already securing the MTN8 and Carling Knockout titles this term, the Moroccan tactician is now four points away from matching the club’s recent average season tallies, with the 50-point milestone firmly in sight.

The potential return of Kabelo Dlamini provides a much-needed creative spark. The former Bloemfontein Celtic playmaker has been out of commission since late November 2025. Before his injury, Dlamini had been a steady hand in the final third, registering two assists in nine outings.

On the defensive end, Sihle Nduli is also making rapid progress. The 30-year-old midfield anchor was a revelation under Ouaddou before a November setback against Golden Arrows sidelined him. With 18 appearances under his belt this season, Nduli’s steel in the middle of the park was a primary reason for Pirates’ early-season silverware haul.

The club’s medical team noted that both players “continue to make strides,” and while they may not be rushed into the starting XI for Saturday’s clash, their presence in training has bolstered squad morale.

Siwelele’s Uphill Battle

Standing in Pirates’ way this Saturday at the Orlando Amstel Arena is a resilient Siwelele FC outfit. However, the visitors have concerns of their own, specifically regarding the fitness of Tebogo Potsane.

The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker, who has two goals and two assists to his name this season, is a major doubt after being stretchered off in his last outing. For a side that has managed a meagre three goals in nine away matches, losing Potsane could be catastrophic for their hopes of an upset.

With Mamelodi Sundowns currently occupied with CAF Champions League duties following their 3-0 drubbing of Stade Malien, Pirates have a clear window to move three points clear at the top.

Kick-off at the Orlando Amstel Arena is set for 15:30 CAT. Should the Buccaneers navigate this hurdle, the “Cup Kings” may finally start looking like “Champions-elect.”
