Ibenge confident Azam FC will beat Young Africans in Dar Derby

Azam FC head coach Florent Ibenge has revealed their readiness to face rivals Azam FC in their Mainland Premier League fixture dubbed ‘Dar Derby’ at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday.

The Ice Cream Makers and Young Africans won their respective previous matches. While Azam defeated Dodoma Jiji 3-0, Young Africans secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Tanzania Prisons.

The Citizens will go into the fixture sitting top of the league table while Ice Cream Makers from Chamazi are lying third.

Azam will do their best against Yanga

“The most of the preparation is to recover, because we have played a lot of games, and now we travel. So, it was important for us to recover in order to be fit tomorrow (Sunday),” Ibenge told Pan-Africa Football.

“Everybody agrees that it is an exciting game, we are happy to play this kind of game, so I think we are going to do our best to satisfy our fans.”

Ibenge added: “I know we have not enjoyed a good run, having drawn consecutive matches before our latest win, but against Young Africans, we are going to play, we are going to try and do our best.

“We are going to take points as usual, and I hope we will have a lot of fans at Mkapa, and we are going to play a good game and show how good we can be.”

Azam will focus not to concede

Azam player Lusajo Mwaikenda said they are well organised in the goalkeeping area, to ensure they do not concede and not lose the game.

“We know everything about Young Africans; we have been keeping a close eye on how their strikers play. We know they have scored a lot of goals so far in the league, but this doesn’t worry us,” said Mwaikenda.

“We have planned to stop them from scoring because that is the most important thing. We know football is played in 90 minutes but our focus is to have a solid defensive line to ensure we reach our target of beating them.”

Young Africans have amassed 35 points from 13 matches while Azam have collected 27 points from the same number of matches.
