MC Alger: Rulani Mokwena replaced by Khaled Ben Yahia as head coach

Algerian giants MC Alger have officially appointed Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia as the team’s new head coach, replacing Rulani Mokwena.

In an official statement published on the club’s platforms, the management confirmed that Ben Yahia has signed a contract that will keep him in charge of the team until June 2027.

The club also announced that the Tunisian coach will immediately begin his duties on Sunday evening by overseeing the team’s training session in preparation for their upcoming match against USM Khenchela.

Ben Yahia is no stranger to MC Alger, having previously coached the club last season. During his tenure, he led the team to win the Algerian league title as well as the Algerian Super Cup, while guiding them to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League before their elimination.

The appointment comes after the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena, who decided to leave MC Alger and pay a release clause equivalent to two months of his salary.

MC Alger remain in a strong position domestically. The team currently sits at the top of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 standings with a five-point lead over second place while also having four games in hand, putting them in a very favorable position in the title race.

However, the club’s continental and cup campaigns have been less successful. MC Alger were eliminated in the group stage of the CAF Champions League, and their run in the Algerian Cup ended in the quarter-finals following a defeat to CR Belouizdad.
