Aubameyang: “I can still play for a few more years”

Veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he still has some gas left in his tank before retiring from football.

The 36-year-old’s return to French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille from Saudi Pro side Al Qadsiah has been marked with an impressive 23 outings, 8 goals and 6 assists this season in league action.

The French-born attacker played the full match during Marseille’s 1-0 victory at home to Auxerre last Friday where Algeria international Amine Gouiri got the only goal of the game.

The former Saint-Etienne attacker shared a few words on whether he will soon retire from the game.

“My career end? My body and my stats indicate that I’m still good to play for a few more years,” he told DAZN Futbol.

Aubameyang’s club and national team career

The former Arsenal forward captained Gabon at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, scoring in a 2-3 defeat to Mozambique to become one of the tournament’s oldest goalscorers.

However, his tournament was truncated in late December 2025 due to recurring left thigh injuries, causing him to leave the camp early. Aubameyang has been a mainstay for Gabon with commanding statistics of 40 goals from 83 appearances.

His first professional club was Italian giants AC Milan before three loan spells at Dijon, Lille and Monaco.

He signed permanently with Saint-Étienne and later joined Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Marseille and Al Qadsiah before returning to OM.
