Zimbabwe’s Highlanders FC coach Benjani Mwaruwari has dropped a heavy hint of former Warriors star Kudakwashe Mahachi’s possible return to regular action in the country’s elite Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
From being linked with moves to top European teams while at his peak with Orlando Pirates FC then Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa to now being a forgotten man—the winger has had to start all over again.
The blonde-haired attacker has been struggling for regular action largely due to fitness issues, barely managing the substitutes’ bench last season while on the books of another Zimbabwean outfit Manica Diamonds. He featured in 15 games for Dynamos last season.
This season, the former Pirates star has shown flashes of his old self, but is yet to break into Highlanders’ starting XI having joined them in the off-season from Diamonds.
Now, Mwaruwari has given a positive update on the performance of Mahachi, saying he is showing signs of improvement.
“Kuda has been working hard and he has been helping,” the former Premier League star said. “He is a veteran, so when I was working with some combinations, I know Kuda—everyone knows Kuda—so it was some sort of like laid back but working differently, like on physique and running on the sidelines because I had to see some other boys for the combinations.
“Now, I know that I need to play him more. I know most of the boys now, hopefully, he will start a game going forward,” Mwaruwari said.
The 32-year-old former Sundowns winger has a stint with Medeama FC in Ghana in 2023 but he did not excel.
