Barker urges Simba SC to improve against TRA United

Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has called on his players to up their game if they are to beat TRA United in their Mainland Premier League fixture at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday.

The Msimbazi Reds are struggling to score enough goals if you look at their last four matches in the league. After the 2-0 win against Tanzania Prisons, they drew 0-0 against Dodoma Jiji, 0-0 against Young Africans, won 2-1 against Singida Black Stars, before a 1-1 draw against Pamba Jiji.

According to the South Africans coach, Simba must wake up, and start scoring goals so as to reward themselves from their ‘good football’.

TRA are a good team

“First of all, it is nice to be playing at home, we have had a number of away games now, so, we were meant to play TRA United last weekend, but unfortunately the game was rained off,” Barker told Pan-Africa Football.

“We are looking forward to the game, TRA are a good team, as they showed with their performance against Yanga, but our preparations have gone well, but we are disappointed with the result in mid-week.

“We know that we need to improve our performance, if we want to beat a team like TRA. So, preparations I think it’s been a short turn around. We arrived yesterday (Thursday), so we had a training session, and will have another before the game.

“I think the foundation of our preparations has been laid over the last few months, it is now a matter of just making sure that will bring our best performance against TRA United. It is needed; it is an important game for us to get maximum points before we have a small break for the FIFA international break.”

Simba must be clinical in final third

Barker added: “The players are all ready, well prepared. We also welcome back Mwalimu, who was suspended for three matches. He is now available again, the preparations have been good and we are ready for the game.”

He continued: “The good thing about us is we are creating chances, but we now need to be clinical in the final third, and improving on our execution, and our final decision, and just making sure in that final third we reward ourselves for a lot of the good football we are playing.”

A win for Simba, will see them topple Azam FC from the second position. While Azam have garnered 29 points, Simba are behind with 28 points.
