Durban City FC claimed the local bragging rights on Sunday afternoon, edging Richards Bay FC 1-0 in a tightly contested KZN Derby at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.
The victory moves the ambitious coastal outfit into fifth position on the Betway Premiership log and within a fighting chance to secure a spot in the CAF inter-club competition in their maiden season in the SA top-flight.
After a cagey opening 45 minutes where neither side could find a breakthrough, the game sparked into life late in the second half. The decisive moment arrived in the 80th minute when Samkelo Maseko latched onto a well-timed assist from Saziso Magawana to bury the winner.
The result sees Durban City climb to 35 points from 22 matches, while the Natal Rich Boyz remain languishing in 12th place with 23 points.

In Durban’s other top-flight fixture, Golden Arrows compounded Sekhukhune United’s recent misery with a narrow 1-0 victory at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Sabelo Sithole was the hero for Abafana Bes’thende, producing a moment of magic in the 82nd minute. Sithole turned brilliantly on the left flank before unleashing a powerful drive past Renaldo Leaner. The win—Arrows’ eighth of the campaign—sees them leapfrog Stellenbosch FC into the final MTN8 qualification spot.
For Eric Tinkler’s Babina Noko, the “wound” deepens; they have now gone five matches without a win across all competitions. Their afternoon went from bad to worse early on when veteran marksman Bradley Grobler was stretchered off in visible distress, further hampering an attack that has now failed to score in their last three outings.
In Bloemfontein, Lehlohonolo Seema’s Siwelele FC kept their top-eight aspirations alive with a professional 1-0 win over struggling Orbit College at the Toyota Stadium.
The hosts flew out of the blocks and secured the lead in the 10th minute through Nigerian forward Chibuike Ohizu. After being played through by the industrious Tebogo Potsane, Ohizu kept his composure to slot home a low finish.
Despite a spirited second-half push from the visitors, Siwelele’s defense held firm to move to 26 points from 21 matches. Orbit College, meanwhile, remains in a precarious 15th position, just goal difference away from the basement of the table.
