Mapeza: ‘You can’t take anything from Khama Billiat’

Zimbabwe’s Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza has described winger Khama Billiat as a special talent, declaring that no one can take anything away from him.

The former Warriors mentor said this in a post-match press conference after an emphatic 3-0 victory over Hunters FC at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

Commenting on the flying start to the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign for Billiat, Mapeza described the former Warriors star as talented.

“If you look at Khama and Knowledge [Musona], they never missed one day of pre- season training. Khama was there from day one. You can’t just take anything from Khama. The intelligence is there. He is clever. He is smart. He is a real talent,” the coach said.

Mapeza said he was pleasantly surprised by how his team performed during the league match considering that they have fulfilled four fixtures inside two weeks.

“It was a massive game of football,” Mapeza said. “After our trip from Gibbo Stadium on Thursday, I wasn’t really sure about the physicality of our players.”

“Yesterday, the players had shown signs of tiredness,” he said.

“In the first half, we had very good opportunities. In the second half, we also had opportunities. It is just decision-making that was lacking. If you go one versus one with a goalkeeper, you are expected to score.”

“The progressive is there. Overall performance, we are good. The boys are working hard. This international break players can go home and relax.”

How Billiat thrilled Rufaro Stadium with double

Billiat, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star, found the back of the net in either half to hand Mapeza’s charges the maximum points.

It was the second brace for the former Kaizer Chiefs star in three days after having also scored twice when Scottland FC eased to a 3-0 victory over Manica Diamonds at Gibbo Stadium on Thursday.

Billiat put the noses of the Castle Lager PSL champions in front when he arrived in the box to meet a delivery from Emmanuel Ziocha and glance the effort into the net in the 20th minute.

Two minutes into the second half, Billiat reacted the fastest in the box to meet skipper Walter Musona’s corner-kick. It was his fourth goal in four games for the CAPS United.

Scorer-turned provider when the South Africa’s PSL star created the third goal for Mapeza’s charges, laying the ball invitingly to Walter Musona, whose elder brother Knowledge Musona started the game from the substitutes’ bench, for the captain to apply the final finish in the 54th minute.

The holders who will now switch focus to the next assignment this time on the road to face TelOne FC on Thursday, 2nd April.
