Just on the stroke of half time, Junya Ito broke the heart of the home fans by restoring Genk’s lead before the whistle blew for recess.

The game went up in flames in the first nine minutes of the second half when Morocco international Zakarai El Ouahdi scored a fourth for Genk with 50 minutes played before keeper Tobias Lawal gifted La Louviere one back in the 69th minute.

The game proceeded into the latter stages with Aaron Bibout shooting Genk into 5-3 lead but the home side left it late to score twice from Nachon Nsingi and Wagane Faye to peg the final score at 5-5.

The result ultimately fell short of both sides’ objectives as Genk missed out on a place in the top six, while La Louviere were unable to avoid the relegation playoffs.

Afriyie, 19, has now scored five goals in 25 matches since joining La Louviere on loan from Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.
