Kaze explains why Glody Lilepo is Chiefs’ most productive star

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has shed light on why DR Congo international Glody Lilepo has become an indispensable cog in the Amakhosi machine.

While the Soweto giants have faced a challenging season in their pursuit of silverware, Lilepo has emerged as a consistent bright spot. With 10 direct goal involvements this term (3 goals and 2 assists in the Betway Premiership, plus 4 goals in the CAF Confederation Cup), the 28-year-old is currently the most productive player at Naturena.

He leads the charts ahead of Flavio da Silva, who, despite having five league goals, lacks the all-around contribution Lilepo provides.

According to Kaze, Lilepo’s value extends far beyond the stat sheet. It is his tactical flexibility that makes him a dream for the coaching staff. Whether deployed as a traditional winger or as a focal point in the “target man” role, Lilepo has adapted seamlessly.

“I believe he is a player with a lot of experience; he has been in big clubs, and he is a player who has a lot of qualities,” Kaze explained. “He is fast, he can play as a striker… He can hold the ball, he can run behind the backline, and he is a player who is calm when he is inside the box.”

Kaze pointed to a specific moment in the recent clash against Durban City FC to illustrate why the Congolese attacker is so highly rated. He noted that Lilepo’s ability to create space for himself is a rare trait in the local league.

“You don’t find a lot of strikers who can do his movements. The goal he scored the last time, he took two steps to put himself in a good position far from the defender. That’s why we value him.”

Having already shown glimpses of this form after joining midway through last season—where he bagged five league goals—Lilepo is now proving that his initial impact was no fluke. As Chiefs look to navigate the remainder of the season, Lilepo’s “big game” experience and box intelligence will be vital for any hopes of a strong finish.
