However, his club Motherwell FC have announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations discovery picked a knock which has ruled him out of the forthcoming friendlies stretching between March 23 to 31.
“The forward reported a small issue following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Hibernian, and the player will remain in Scotland to manage the issue,” reads the club’s statement.
Maswanhise was among the notable inclusions in the Zimbabwe squad for the tournament.
Ahead of the trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe national team coach Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica sparked debate after leaving out some key players, including Khama Billiat, Walter Musona and France-based midfielder Marshall Munetsi.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers star fell out with the Romanian over the player’s exclusion from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations squad last December.
On the other hand, Billiat, the ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger, seems not to be in the coach’s plans. First-choice goalkeeper Washington Arubi was also dropped for reasons that are yet to be established.
Marinica assembled the squad comprising home-based players alongside those drawn from South Africa, across Africa and in Europe. Experienced players in the squad include Teenage Hadebe, Marvelous Nakamba, Knowledge Musona, Prince Dube and Macauley Bonne.
Meanwhile, the Warriors were on Tuesday drawn with Botswana while Zambia take on Malawi at the Four Nations Tournament.
