Al Masry claimed an important 2-0 victory over El Gouna in the first leg of the Egypt Capital Cup (Egyptian League Cup) quarter-finals, in a match held at Suez Stadium, putting the Port Said side in a strong position ahead of the return leg.
The hosts made a perfect start, opening the scoring as early as the 5th minute through Monzer Temine. The forward capitalized on a long pass from Ahmed Ayman Mansour, breaking through on goal before finishing into the net.
Al Masry continued to control proceedings, while El Gouna struggled to find a response. In the second half, AbdelRahim Daghmoum came close to doubling the lead in the 60th minute, but his strike was denied by the crossbar.
The second goal eventually arrived in the 64th minute, when Salah Mohsen converted from the penalty spot after Omar Saadawy won a spot-kick, further extending Al Masry’s advantage.
Late drama unfolded in stoppage time, as Mido Gaber found the net in the 90+4th minute after a one-on-one situation, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, ensuring the match ended 2-0 in favor of Al Masry.
The two teams are set to meet again at the same venue on Monday, March 30, at 3:00 PM GMT, where the semi-final spot will be decided.
