Four clubs yet to meet Mozambique club licensing requirements

Four out of 14 clubs in Mozambique’s elite league have not yet earned licenses to enable them to compete in the flagship 2026-2027 Moçambola league.

The Mozambique Football Federation confirmed via a statement the list of the 10 teams that have met the requirements stipulated in the Club Licensing regulations.

The remaining four teams will be given a chance to submit the requirements and earn the licences. However, time is running out.

The clubs that have satisfied the requirements include Black Bulls, Vilankulo, Baia de Pemba, Chingate de Tete, Ferroviario de Maputo, Ferroviario de Lichinga, Ferroviario de Nacala, Ferroviario de Nampula and Liga Desportivo de Sofala.

Teams such as Ferroviario de Pemba, Costa do Sol, Maxaquene and defending champions UD Songo have not yet earned the licences.

What does it take to earn a licence?

To qualify for a licence, a club must have a secretariat, training facilities, youth teams, clear ownership and governance structure, qualified personnel such as an account and coaches among other parameters.

The league champion for Mozambique earns the right to compete in the CAF Champions League.

To warm up for the season, Bulls won a pre-season Mário Esteves Coluna Super Cup after beating UD Songo 3-2 on post-match penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time at Lalgy Arena last weekend.
