The Elephants of Ivory Coast posted a decisive result to kick off their March fixtures by crushing South Korea in a surprise 4-0 victory in Milton Keynes, England on Saturday.
Martial Godo produced a goal and an assist while Evann Guessand, Simon Adingra and Wilfried Singo all got on the scoresheet as well for the West African nation. It was a superb effort from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinalists, who showed what they are capable of on their best day.
After an even exchange of opportunities in the opening thirty minutes, the Ivorians increased their intensity and finished the first half in spectacular fashion. Godo’s excellent pass found Guessand at the edge of the six-yard box and the Crystal Palace forward poked his finish past Jo Hyeon-woo in the Korean goal.
In first half stoppage time, Adingra received a pass from Parfait Guiagon while cutting inside from the left wing and curled his shot past Jo to double the advantage.
Mass changes to the Korean team at halftime and before the hour mark did not help their chemistry, allowing the Elephants to seize full control in the second half. Godo got himself a goal shortly after the hour mark, courtesy of awful defending before the Strasbourg winger finished from close range after Guessand’s initial shot was saved.
Amad Diallo, on as a substitute after Godo’s goal, set up the final blow with a low cross for fellow substitute Singo to finish in stoppage time.
