AFC Leopards pile pressure on Gor Mahia after Kariobangi Sharks win

Kenyan Premier League outfit AFC Leopards reduced Gor Mahia lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table to four points following their hard-fought 1-0 win against Kariobangi Sharks at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Ingwe went into the fixture sitting second on the league table with 49 points, and they knew a win of any kind will help them put pressure on record champions Gor Mahia, who are sitting at the top with 56 points.

Since their 4-1 shocking defeat against Mathare United, AFC Leopards have now gone ahead to win their three matches. Ingwe recovered from the Mathare defeat to edge out Nairobi United 1-0, defeated Tusker 1-0, and now won 1-0 against Sharks on Sunday.

Kelly Madada missed AFCโ€™s first opportunity

AFC Leopards were the better side in the early exchanges and they squandered an opportunity to take the lead but youngster Kelly Madada shot his effort wide.

Sharks responded with their own chance when Steve Mbulere laid a neat pass to David Majak, but the former Tusker FC striker failed to connect the ball into the net. Sharks continued to dominate proceedings and wasted another chance through Majak.

At the start of the second half, Leopards made the first change of the game – Hassan Beja coming in for Ronald Sichenje. However, after a host of missed chances, AFC Leopards broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.

Tyson Otieno, who was overlooked for Kenya national team Harambee Stars squad currently in Rwanda for the FIFA Series, scored from what looked like a cross delivery, which evaded everyone and into the top corner.

AFC Leopards have now garnered 52 points, from 15 wins, sevens draws, and four defeats. In another fixture, Shabana moved to third spot following their 1-0 win against Murangโ€™a Seal. Wycliffe Omondi scored the all-important goal.
