Paris Saint-Germain prodigy, Ibrahim Mbaye has etched his name on the lips of Senegal boss, Pape Thiaw following his eye-catching performance during their win over Peru.
The African champion posted a state-of-the-art performance, putting 2-0 win past Peru in an international friendly in France on Saturday.
Mbaye, who registered a decisive assist in the Teranga Lions 2-0 victory over Peru, earned the praise of head coach Pape Thiaw.
“We know his potential for growth is enormous. At 17, winning a Champions League and an AFCON title for his country is extraordinary, not to mention the French league title.
“I, at 18, was playing in the Gambardella Cup,” he declared at a press conference, as reported by RMC Sport.
At 18, he is an African champion and already a darling of the Senegalese public.
He played six matches, scoring a goal as Pape Gueye’s late strike helped Senegal beat Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in January.
The attacker , who a few months ago chose to represent Senegal over France and Morocco, provided the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s opening goal after dribbling past two defenders.
He is expected to be part of Senegal squad that will compete in the World Cup in three months in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Mbaye who previously represented France at youth level up to the U-21, has eight caps for Senegal since switching to play for the West African nation.
They are paired in Group I with former champions France, Norway with a third opponent to be determined by the inter-confederation playoffs.
