Friendlies: “Ghana failed to achieve purpose” – Maxwell Konadu

Former Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu says the nation failed to achieve its purpose in the two international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

The Black Stars conceded seven goals and scored just twice in the two pre-World Cup warm up exercise.

The four time African champions suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium last Friday before going down 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart three days later.

A number of new faces made their debut with others like Daniel Agyei warming the bench in all two games.

Having closed the chapter for the March FIFA International Window with those two losses, Maxwell Konadu admits the objective of the exercise was not fully reached.

“There are players you have seen so I feel others should have been given the chance.

“Some players came and sat on the bench throughout the two games, why invite them if they won’t play.

“I think the objective of the friendlies was not achieved,” he said on Max TV.

Otto Addo sacked after Germany loss

Otto Addo’s head has been on the chopping board immediately after the 5-1 loss to Austria with the subsequent defeat to Germany compounding his woes.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed the departure of coach Otto Addo after the loss to Germany.

The Black Stars are set to play two more friendlies against Wales and Mexico before the World Cup in Canada, USA and Mexico.

Ghana is making a fifth appearance at the mundial where they are paired in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
