Shobeir reveals Egypt’s tactical plan after Spain draw

Mostafa Shobeir, goalkeeper of the Egypt national football team, revealed key tactical detail after Egypt’s performance in their goalless draw against Spain national football team.

Egypt held Spain to a 0-0 draw in the international friendly played at the RCDE Stadium, with Shobeir delivering an outstanding performance, making several crucial saves.

Speaking to On Sport after the game, Shobeir said:
“We achieved a good result against a strong and top team. We focused on ball possession, which is also Spain’s main strength.”

He added:
“The instructions from Hossam Hassan were clear — we should not give Spain the ball or sit back defensively. We had to play on equal terms.”

Commenting on building from the back, Al Ahly goalkeeper explained:
“A goalkeeper must be good with his feet. However, there were moments when playing long balls was the better option, especially after going down to ten men.”

Shobeir started both of Egypt’s recent friendlies against Saudi Arabia national football team and Spain, keeping clean sheets in both matches. Egypt had previously secured an emphatic 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia where Shobeir played 57 minutes.

Looking ahead, Egypt will compete in Group G at the upcoming FIFA World Cup alongside Iran national football team, Belgium national football team, and New Zealand national football team.
