Otto Addo: Kurt Okraku takes responsibility for sacking

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has taken responsibility for the sacking of coach Otto Addo.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward was relieved of his post after Ghana lost 2-1 to Germany in their second international friendly in Stuttgart on Monday.

The German trained coach had supervised a poor run 5-1 loss against Austria in the first game at the Ernst Happel Stadium last Friday.

Otto Addo’s dismissal has generated massive debate on the continent with the four time African champions going on the market in search of a substantive manager.

Kurt Okraku said: “I think that it’s been a period of two phase I will say, one phase, we watching Ghana play against Germany and putting up a decent performance and another phase me having to say bye-bye.

“So a coach I have worked with for a while. So it’s been a tough 24-hours but that’s life.” He told 3Sports.

When asked about how tough the decision to sack Otto Addo was, the University of Liverpool graduate had this to say.

“Obviously while I employed him, I’m also responsible for everything that is connected to his job.

Ghana will play at its fifth FIFA World Cup

“As human as we are and having worked since 2022, we had a good working relationship but in the end, as leaders as we are, it’s always important to look ourselves in the faces and speak about issues that concern us and look at how we can progress.”

Ghana missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations under the tutelage of Otto Addo, a situation Ghanaians did not take kindly to.

Ghana will play at its fifth FIFA World Cup in Canada, USA and Mexico where they are paired in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
