Injury boost: Victor Boniface nears Werder Bremen return

Nigeria international Victor Boniface has officially set his sights on a Bundesliga return, handing Werder Bremen a massive boost following a gruelling injury layoff.

The 25-year-old marksman underwent surgery in January after sustaining a serious knee injury while on duty for the “Green and Whites.”

While initial medical assessments suggested his season was prematurely over, Boniface defied the odds by returning to full team training this week, potentially putting him in contention for the final stretch of the campaign.

Victor Boniface: ‘I’m Happy to be Back’

Expressing his relief via the club’s official social media channels, the Super Eagles striker admitted that the three-month journey to recovery has been a test of patience.

“I am happy to be back after three months out. I am now looking forward to what we can achieve at the end of the season,” Boniface shared.

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. Before his injury setback, he had registered two assists in 11 league appearances, providing a physical presence in the Bremen attack that has been sorely missed during his absence.

His return comes at a critical juncture for the club. Werder Bremen currently languishes in 14th place on the Bundesliga table, sitting on 28 points from 27 matches. With only seven rounds of fixtures remaining and a slender four-point cushion over the relegation zone, Boniface’s availability could be the “X-factor” in securing their top-flight status.
