First half goals from Suleman Mwalimu and former Stellenbosch FC star Ismael Touré was more than enough for the Reds to secure victory at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The result moves them back into second place, four points behind rivals and leaders Young Africans with one game in hand.
It was a dominant effort from the hosts, who took the lead through an excellent team movement that ended with Mwalimu’s finish. Zambian playmaker Clatous Chama began the attack from his own end and also provided the cross for the Tanzania national team forward to collect and finish.
Touré doubled the lead just before halftime when he exposed a failed offside trap from the Coastal Union defense, having all the time in the world to finish past goalkeeper Chuma Ramadhani after taking down a ball in the box.
Next up is a massive test in the Mzizima Derby on Sunday, where Simba will clash with Azam FC. After their victory yesterday, Azam are only two points back of Sunday’s opponents in third place and will have an opportunity to establish themselves as title contenders. Florent Ibengé’s team previously defeated the Reds in early December with a 2-0 result.
