The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has approved the relocation of all remaining home fixtures for Plateau United to a neutral venue for the rest of the season, following the recent wave of violence in Plateau State.
The decision comes amid heightened security concerns in the state capital after a series of attacks, including the Palm Sunday incident in Angwan Rukuba, which claimed 28 lives and left many others injured.

Consequently, league authorities have moved Plateau United’s Matchday 33 encounter against Ikorodu City on Monday to Lafia.
The Chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, stated that the decision was taken to safeguard players, officials, and traveling teams amid ongoing security challenges in the state.
According to Elegbeleye, the move became necessary as the league enters a crucial stage where results carry significant weight. He emphasized that beyond competition, the welfare and safety of all participants remain the top priority.
“The board had to act as we approach the final stretch of the season. While every match is important, we are equally concerned about the safety of teams. We want matches played in a conducive environment that allows players perform at their best, while we hope for a return to normalcy in Plateau State.”
Plateau United currently sits ninth on the league table but remains within reach of the relegation zone. Any slip in form could complicate their survival hopes as the season winds down.
