Discarded Kenyan striker Moses Shumah has just sent Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy a fresh reminder that he could add value to the national team’s frontline.
The 23-year-old grabbed a brace for Power Dynamos FC in their 3-0 victory over Mines United in Zambia’s top-flight league match on Wednesday.

The emphatic win sent Osward Mutapa’s charges four points clear at the Zambian Premier Soccer League/MTN Super League summit.
On a personal level, it was a sort of yet another scoring audition for the goal-poacher who remains out of hard-to-please coach Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars’ selection catchment area.
During the match, midfielder Austin Muwowo put Dynamos ahead after 15 minutes at Arthur Davies Stadium before the Kenyan did the rest to perfection.
Shumah found the back of the net in the 36th minute for the visitors to lead 2-0, before putting the game beyond the reach of Mines United with a 71st-minute typical poacher’s finish when he made the most of a defensive blunder.
The former Kakamega Homeboyz man took his MTN Super League tally to 17 goals, equalling the number that saw him clinch the Football Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot last season.
Shumah is expected again to continue doing what he knows the best when Dynamos take on Nkana FC in a Kitwe Derby on Saturday.
Maybe, McCarthy would think otherwise and recall the in-form forward, who was in the Harambee Stars’ provisional squad for the African Nations Championship last year. He was eventually completely overlooked.
The striker signed a three-year deal with Dynamos at the start of the MTN Super League campaign. That he is not making the national team squad could be largely due to the fact that the Zambian league is not considered among the top in Africa.
