Ghana is on the market in search of a head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the departure of Otto Addo.
Addo’s service was dispensed with hours after the Black Stars lost 2-1 to Germany in an international friendly in March.
“I believe any local coach can coach the @GhanaBlackstars if given the free will to do his job. The problem in Africa is that African or Black coaches do not have a voice. They are not respected like the white coaches, and even paying them is difficult. – Joetex Asamoah Frimpong pic.twitter.com/Jpo9zncQW8

The German trained coach had supervised the four time African champions qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but his performance during the March FIFA friendly window was far from impressive.
Ghana were battered 5-1 by Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium before suffering a 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart.
With the clock ticking to the global football festival in Canada, USA and Mexico, pundits have urged the Football Association to appoint an experienced coach for the job to avoid any mishaps.
However, former Ghana international, Joetex Asamoah Frimpong believes, there are home based coaches who can handle the team if given the chance and confidence. Ghana is paired against Panama, Croatia and England.
“I believe any local coach can coach the Ghana Black Stars if given the free will to do his job,” the former Enyimba striker told Sikka FM.
“The problem in Africa is that African or Black coaches do not have a voice.
“They are not respected like the white coaches, and even paying them is difficult.”
Joetex Frimpong was a member of Ghana’s squad at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt but failed to make the final squad for the World Cup that year due to injuries. He was capped 11 times with two goals scored.
He played for El Kanemi Warriors and Enyimba in Nigeria, winning the Premier League twice, the African Champions League in 2003 and the Nigeria Cup in 2005 with the latter.
His previous club experience includes stints at UAE outfit Al Nasr, CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, Young Boys, FC Luzern, FC Zurich and Grenchen all in the Swiss League.
The Black Stars first appeared at the World Cup in 2006 where they reached the round of 16 in Germany.
They produced an upgraded performance during the 2010 edition in South Africa with inches away from booking a semifinal spot but for Asamoah Gyan’s penalty miss against Uruguay in the quarterfinals.
The team however exited the 2014 and the 2022 editions in Brazil and Qatar respectively at the Group stage after missing out on qualification for the 2018 version in Russia.
Ghana, whose best performance came in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, will make their 5th appearance at the mundial where they are paired in Group L alongside Panama, Croatia and England.
