Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has won Liverpool’s Goal of the Month award for March.
Salah’s curling effort against Galatasaray was confirmed the best for the month.
The Egyptian became the first African player to hit 50 strikes in the Champions League by bending in a beautiful effort from the edge of the box at Anfield.
His goal claimed the most votes in a poll of supporters on Liverpoolfc.com, just ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick in front of the Kop against Tottenham Hotspur.
Szoboszlai also claimed third place in the results for the well-worked opener in the first half of the 4-0 victory over Galatasaray.
An outside-of-the-boot hit from Salah versus Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ceri Holland’s solo effort for Liverpool FC Women at Everton finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Salah, who has already confirmed his intentions to leave the Anfield club at the end of the season, is hoping to return to the starting XI when Liverpool takes on Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Salah warmed the bench during Liverpool’s 20 UEFA Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool coach Arnes Slot later told the media, the former AS Roma striker, was rested to preserve energy ahead of upcoming matches.
“I think in the last part of the game, it was more about surviving for us than there was ever a chance that we could score,” said Slot. “Yeah, you never know, because last season we scored five minutes before the end, Harvey Elliott [scored] when I took Mo off.
“But I think this was a 20, 25 minutes where we were only defending and Mo has so much quality, but for Mo to be 20, 25 minutes defending inside his own box, I think it’s better for him to save his energy for a lot of games that are coming up in the upcoming weeks.”
The forward reached an agreement with the Reds two weeks ago that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.
He expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.
Salah’s final Anfield appearance for Liverpool is likely to come on the last day of the league season when Brentford visit Merseyside on May 24.
