Chiefs stars speak out on the pressure of delivering for millions of fans

CHISLETT AND VELEBAYI ON THE HUNGER FOR FOUR WINS IN A ROW

Playmaker Ethan Chislett, who has become a central figure in Chiefs’ recent resurgence, insists that while the mood in camp is buoyant, the squad remains self-critical.

“Obviously, we are in good spirits from the last game. Confidence is high, although we know that we can improve and do better,” Chislett told the club’s media. “We can’t rest on previous results; we need to forget about them and focus completely on TS Galaxy.”

THE GALAXY THREAT: A DUAL REALITY

Despite TS Galaxy losing four of their last five league outings, winger Asanele Velebayi has cautioned against looking at the log standings. The Rockets have been “cup specialists” this season, securing a spot in the Nedbank Cup final, a feat Velebayi believes makes them dangerous.

“They are a team that shows character despite some recent bad results,” Velebayi warned. “They’ll be looking to replicate their cup form in the league… but we are aiming to build on our run and keep it going.”

Midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, who has provided much-needed steel in the Chiefs engine room, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the pressure that comes with the gold and black jersey.

“For a club of the magnitude of Kaizer Chiefs, expectations are very high, so we need to live up to the standards demanded of us,” said Ndlovu. “At this time of the season, even a point matters. We are determined to finish the season in a high place.”

Ndlovu also issued a rallying cry to the Amakhosi faithful, urging the “12th man” to pack the FNB Stadium to help maintain their momentum.

A win for Chiefs could further solidify their grip on a CAF inter-club qualifying spot, depending on results elsewhere this weekend.
