Late drama as Sekhukhune sink Magesi; Chippa held at home

Sekhukhune United snapped a frustrating five-match winless streak in spectacular fashion on Saturday night, while Chippa United’s recent momentum was stalled by a resilient Polokwane City FC in the Betway Premiership.

Bright Ndlovu Stunner Rescues Sekhukhune

At the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Eric Tinkler’s Sekhukhune United left it until the absolute death to secure a 1-0 victory over a gutsy Magesi FC.

In what appeared to be another frustrating outing for the hosts, Bright Ndlovu emerged as the hero in the sixth minute of stoppage time (90+6’). Ndlovu rose highest to meet a precision Ellis Rammala corner, powering a header into the bottom corner to break Magesi hearts.

The result was harsh on Allan Freese’s “Dikwena tsa Meetse,” who had fought bravely throughout. Renaldo Leaner was called into action early to deny Samuel Darpoh, while Elvis Chipezeze produced heroics at the other end to keep out Keletso Makgalwa.

The victory propels Sekhukhune to 5th on the log with 38 points, reigniting their pursuit of a top-three finish. Meanwhile, Magesi remain anchored to the foot of the table, still searching for a lifeline on 17 points.

Maphangule Penalty Denies Chippa in East London

Over at the Buffalo City Stadium, Chippa United were denied back-to-back wins as Polokwane City fought back to earn a 1-1 draw.

The Chilli Boys dominated large spells of the first half and were rewarded in the 43rd minute. Sinoxolo Kwayiba turned provider, setting up Malebogo Modise, who unleashed a clinical left-footed strike that left Lindokuhle Mathebula with no chance.

However, Phuti Mohafe’s side refused to go down without a fight. The pressure eventually told in the 84th minute when Tholo Matuludi was brought down in the area by Boy Madingwane. Ndamulelo Maphangule stepped up to the spot and calmly converted, sending Dumisani Msibi the wrong way to ensure the spoils were shared.

The draw leaves Polokwane City comfortably in 7th with 33 points, while Chippa United move to 24 points, remaining in the bottom half of the Betway Premiership standings.
