A poor start to the 2024-25 campaign combined with the demands of competing in the CAF Confederation Cup have left Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas playing catch up in Ivory Coast’s Ligue 1 LONACI.
However, Les Mimos are showing signs of hope at the right time with a 3-0 victory over fellow top five side San Pedro on Sunday. ASEC are now three points back of league leaders Stade d’Abidjan with only six matches remaining.
After a fierce battle in the first half between ASEC and San Pedro in Bingerville, ASEC took the lead just before halftime when Franck ZouZou smashed a free kick through the wall. Second half goals from David Koffi and Salifou Diarrassouba confirmed victory for the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinalists.
ASEC are now within range of leaders Stade d’Abidjan, who fell to a 1-0 defeat at Stella Club d’Adjamé. The 2024-25 CAF Champions League group stage participants have now failed to win their last three matches, leaving them only one point ahead of AFAD Djékanou who edged AS Denguele by a 2-1 score.
