The Kasarani Stadium will host test matches in the month of June, two months to the kick off of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya accompanied by her defence counterpart Soipan Tuya inspected the two facilities Monday and gave a progress report of Kenya’s readiness ahead of the Africa soccer showpiece.
The Ministry of Defence through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is assisting the Ministry of Sports to upgrade the 60,000-sitter capacity Stadium and its auxiliary training pitches as one of the venues for this year's CHAN and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

We are also expediting the construction works at Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Kipchoge Keino Stadium, Kirigiti Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium to ensure full readiness for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027,” said Mvurya.
“Kasarani, is taking impressive shape, the canopy is complete, seats have been fitted, and major works on the VIP area and pitch are finalized. We remain committed to fast track the remaining final works.”
