Malawi senior women’s national football team captain Tabitha Chawinga dominated the 2024 Malawi Sports Awards during a gala on Friday, February 28, 2025.
The Lyonnais forward won the Sports Woman of the Year and the Sports Personality of the Year awards after shrugging off competition, including from her younger sister Temwa.
Chawinga had a season to remember in 2023/24 season as she won the Golden Boot Award with 19 goals in Division 1 Féminine for her former club PSG adding to six goals in 12 UEFA Champions League appearances.
Little wonder, the 28-year-old was named the D1 Arkema Player of the Season award.
She also became the first Malawian player to be nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2024, finishing in an impressive 16th place globally.
