Ivory Coast national team coach Emerse Fae has admitted that Zambia played better than his team especially since most of his players were coming from injuries:
The African champions suffered their first defeat in Group G after losing 1-0 against the Chipolopolo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Friday.
The defeat, not only being the first, it enabled the Chipolopolo to displace the Elephants from the top of the group heading into the final matches of the qualifiers on Tuesday.
“I am very very disappointed with the result. Its true we had alot of injuries [heading into this game] but normally even with that, we are capable of beating Zambia. The result is not what we were expecting but it's a game of football, Zambia played well and it's normal for them to win the game,” said Fae.
“Technically we were not good and you can't win the game if you are not technically good and thats what cost us the game."
Zambia stands on top of Group G with 10 points, one better than second placed Ivory Coast while Sierra Leone are on third with five with Chad lying bottom on three. The Chipolopolo will play Sierra Leone on Tuesday in Monrovia in the final Group G match.
Zambia and Ivory Coast have already secured qualification to the AFCON.
