Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has called on the Chipolopolo to go for the top position as they wind up their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches on Tuesday.
The Chipolopolo sealed their fifth appearance at the AFCON to be held in Morocco with a convincing 1-0 win against Ivory Coast at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.
The win courtesy of Kennedy Musonda strike, enabled Chipolopolo to take control of Group G with 10 points, one more than the African champions, while Sierra Leone are third with five and Chad last with three points.
“Our message to the team is to end the campaign on a high and cap the 60th Independence celebrations for mother Zambia with a table topping campaign. The Chipolopolo qualification adds to the Copper Queens and Zambia U20 boys qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations next year. We continue to tick the key boxes for the progress of our game,” said Kamanga in a statement seen by Pan-Africa Football.
Kamanga credited the players and the technical bench led by coach Avram Grant for the qualification by saying: “The team remains motivated to give their best against Sierra Leone especially that some of the players in the Chipolopolo set up are just finding their footing in the light of injuries suffered by some regulars ahead of the back-to-back games. Credit goes to the players and technical bench for navigating their way through a very tough qualification campaign.”
Kamanga also had a message for the fans and sponsors: “We cannot thank the fans enough that showed up for the Chipolopolo in all their home matches during this campaign where Levy Mwanawasa Stadium has established a fierce reputation as a fortress for our team.
“We also wish to thank our partners among them government that have rendered the necessary support for the team to fulfil its fixtures.”
Chipolopolo are already in Monrovia for their finalgame against the Leone Stars.
