Guinea national side head coach Michel Dussuyer admitted it was a must win game against lowly ranked Somalia. The star studded Syli Nationale found it hard to break the resilient defense of the Ocean Stars in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier encounter in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Dussuyer stated the mood at the Guinean camp is that of frustration with the outcome. “It's inconceivable not to have scored a goal. This is a match that Guinea unfortunately had to win. Obviously, there is a huge disappointment. The objective was to take the three points. Now, we have a match to play in Kampala on Tuesday. We will have to prove ourselves quickly to win in Uganda.”
The draw helped Somalia gain their first point in an astounding fashion under new coach Yussuf Ali Nur. Dussuyer now shifted his focus to the game against Uganda. The Cranes are coming to the match after a 3-1 defeat to Mozambique.
Dussuyer believes the next assignment will be crucial and scoring a goal will be more important. “We have to react. Tonight, it is very hard for us. There was a lot of frustration and irritation. We will motivate the boys by hoping that we will be much more efficient and sharper in front of goal.”
Guinea are currently third in Group G with seven points, five points shy of leaders Algeria and Mozambique.
