Lesotho senior national team head coach Leslie Notsi believes his side will have to dig deep for a good result against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana when they face off in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday.
According to Notsi, Bafana have enjoyed great success in recent years under Belgian coach Hugo Broos and for his side to grind out a win in the away matchday five fixture, it will require them to be at their full strength during the battle and play without fear.
“They have some of the best-talented players with one of the shrewd coaches around, and I expect a tough encounter, which I believe we have to dig deep to put in a competitive game,” said Notsi as quoted by Lesotho FA official website.
Notsi remained adamant that his side will rise to the occasion in the same manner they did when they frustrated the star-studded Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, where the Super Eagles had to come from behind to salvage a draw.
“I think this is a match that is highly anticipated by the supporters. As you know, we are neighbouring countries. I want my players to put in big performances. It’s not usual for us to play against each other in big qualifiers like the World Cup.
“It’s a game that people are looking forward to. I believe it’s going to be a tough encounter playing one of the best countries in our region. Also, the continent as a whole.”
Likuena arrived in Polokwane on Monday and held their first training session on the same day as Notsi had access to all his 34-man squad following the arrival of the foreign based players.
The two neighboring countries are separated by two points in Group C after four games with South Africa in second position with seven points while Lesotho are in fourth spot having grinded five points.
