Cameroon national team head coach Marc Brys defended his decision for calling up injured duo Zambo Anguissa and Collins Fai. The duo will definitely miss the Indomitable Lions' first 2026 World Cup qualifying game in March against Eswatini. Both players are expected to be ready to face Libya in the crucial second match of the FIFA window.
The Belgian coach stated the Napoli star is injured but will be ready for the Libya clash. “Zambo Anguissa, he has a sore foot but he is sure and convinced that he can play the second match. That's why I took him.”
Fai's inclusion is said to be due to his experience. After almost eight months without a club, Fai signed with Bosnian top flight club Sloboda Tuzla at the end of February but has yet to debut for his new club. Brys is not worried about the absences of Fai and Anguissa as he banks on the young players to shine against lowly ranked Eswatini.
During the squad announcement, the local media asked Brys if he congratulated Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Sameul Eto’o on his election to the CAF Executive Committee. Brys gave an odd answer as the high tension between the two clearly remains:
“I'm not answering that. We're here for the Lions' list. No one congratulated me on qualifying.”
The Indomitable Lions are currently top of Group D with eight points with Libya and Cape Verde (each on seven points) and Angola (six points) closely behind.
