Sudan national team head coach James Kwesi Appiah has called up a young up and coming French-born talent for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Senegal and South Sudan later this month. Basel Abu Al-Qasim has gotten a surprise call up to the senior national side.
Before turning 18, Al-Qasim played for the Sudan U-17 national team. He was born in Lille to Sudanese parents and currently plays for the youth team of FC Wiltz in Luxembourg's top flight BGL Ligue. He is yet to make an appearance for the senior side but his playmaking skills with the youth side has earned him a place in Appiah provisional squad list.
Al-Qasim scored eight goals in 10 appearances for Wiltz's youth side, being awarded Man of the Match 8 times. He has joined the Sudan squad in Taif, Saudi Arabia for preparations.
Sudan will lock horns against giants Senegal and neighbors South Sudan in Benghazi, Libya. The Falcons of Jediane tops Group B with 10 points after an impressive display over four qualifying games.
