The Ethiopian Premier League Share Company (EPLSC) has docked nine points from Mekele 70 Enderta, citing the player’s ineligibility. The player in question is right-back Suleiman Hamid.
Suleiman Hamid was red-carded during a 2024/25 league match while he was playing for Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. That resulted in a four-match ban by the league.
Hamid made a big move to Mekele 70 Enderta during the summer transfer window. The Ethiopian international then played three league games for the northern Ethiopian side during the 2025/26 season. Hamid played against Mechal, Dire Dawa Ketema, and Hawassa Ketema when he should have been serving his suspension.
The EPLSC stated that Commercial Bank of Ethiopia filed a complaint over the Hamid affair after their week 7 2–2 draw against Mekele 70 Enderta.
The EPLSC thus nullified the three rounds of games of Mekele 70 Enderta, as the club is docked nine points and nine goals. Mekele’s team leader, Tekele Eyasu, has been handed a six-month suspension.
The sanction resulted in Mekele 70 Enderta slipping into the relegation zone with only three points. The one-time Ethiopian champions are now 19th in the standings.
