Abdallah Sima provides a goal and an assist as Lens advance in Coupe de France

RC Lens advanced to the Round of 16 in the Coupe de France on Sunday with Abdallah Sima involved in two goals during a 3-0 victory at Sochaux.

The Senegalese forward provided a perfect cross for Matthieu Udol to make it 2-0 in favor of the Ligue 1 saide before Sima himself scored the third goal to complete the victory against the third tier side. Sima had only come on a few minutes earlier before helping his team confirm their place in the next round.

It has been a difficult stretch for the former Slavia Prague player in his club career. Since earning a transfer to English Premier League club Brighton ahead of the 2021-22 season, Sima has continued to move on loan with the Pas-de-Calais club his latest stop.

A successful spell with Scottish club Rangers (16 goals in 40 appearances) helped him break into the Senegal national team. However, a less successful loan move to Brest the following season saw Sima fall out of the reckoning for the Lions of Teranga and it looks unlikely that he will make Pape Thiaw’s side for the 2026 World Cup despite featuring in three matches during qualifying.

Since joining Le Sang et Or on loan, Sima has only started against lower league sides in the cup. He has seven appearances in Ligue 1 this season with one goal while being used as a substitute. His only Ligue 1 start came in a 0-2 defeat at Metz in late October, where Sima was substituted at halftime.
