Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi is the only African named in the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League Team of the Year.
Hakimi has earned recognition following his stellar performances for newly crowned champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The UEFA Technical Study Group decided the winners.
The right-back, who scored the opening goal that put PSG on the path to a 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday, has made the squad alongside six teammates. Before the final, the Moroccan was on target when PSG beat Arsenal 2-1 in the semifinal, second leg match on May 7.
He also showed his versatility in adding his name to the scoresheet in the 3-2 loss to Aston Villa in the quarterfinal second leg.
The French champions have also contributed to the squad goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, defenders Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, midfielder Vitinha, and forwards Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé.
Hakimi has now collected 16 major trophies across four of Europe’s top five leagues: Spain, Germany, Italy, and France.
