Ademola Lookman: Diego Simeone praises impact of winger

Diego Simeone has expressed his satisfaction with Ademola Lookman’s impact off the bench in Atlético Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League knockout playoff stage on Tuesday.

​Lookman, who has been a regular starter for Atlético since his arrival in the January transfer window, was surprisingly named among the substitutes by Simeone.

The Nigerian international, however, replaced Álex Baena in the 70th minute and set up Alexander Sørloth for Atlético’s third goal just six minutes later.

Now Simeone turns his attention to the knockout stage of the of the champions league.

​Simeone’s reaction to Lookman

​The gaffer was impressed by the 28-year-old forward’s performance after the match, noting that adapting to a new system seamlessly is no easy feat.

”I was impressed because there is a lot of work and effort behind the scenes, it’s not easy to adapt to this great team that is Atlético.

I liked Lookman’s entry, he should have played, he didn’t play because Sørloth played.”

Lookman has now registered four goals and three assists in seven matches across all competitions for the Rojiblancos.
