Nigeria national team forward Ademola Lookman has reportedly sustained a calf injury that could sideline him for a number of weeks.
According to reports from Italian football news outlet SOS Fanta, Lookman picked up the injury during Atalanta’s training session on Wednesday. While initial assessments suggest the injury is not severe, it is significant enough to prevent him from participating in full team training with La Dea.
The Nigeria international is set to undergo further medical tests on Friday, to ascertain the full extent of the issue and determine a precise recovery timeline.
It is believed that the injury is not serious but it is expected to keep Lookman out of full training with Atalanta.
The 27-year-old injury timing is particularly unfortunate for Lookman, who has been heavily has been linked with a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan, with whom he has reportedly reached an agreement with Christian Chivu’s side.
Fresh off an outstanding 2023/2024 season where he famously netted a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final, his stock has never been higher. His impressive form continued into the 2024/2025 campaign with a career-high 15 league goals along with 5 assists, further solidifying his reputation as one of Serie A’s most exciting attackers.
The Nerrazzuri are however still in talks with Atalanta, who are demanding €50 million to sell the player.
